Hibiscus Rising was a new permanent piece of public art in Leeds City Centre. A 10m tall replica of an hibiscus flower painted in Yinka Shonibare’s signature patterns and colours inspired by his Nigerian roots.

Initially as a consultant we supported Leeds 2023 in contractual negotiations with the local authority who were the commissioners and we worked with the landscape designers and artist studio on first stage designs and permissions.

Once on board as project manager we oversaw the delivery timeline and budget, liaising between the local authority, artist studio, Leeds 2023, landscape architects and construction company. We ensured all appropriate permissions and documentation were in place and managed the contractual processes between all parties.
